How You Can Help:

EMMA Saunders writes: 'Are you able to spare some time over the next few weeks to help us continue our success in Richmond Park and North Kingston?

Advance notice - big clerical job on easter weekend: I also want to let you know that we will have a big clerical job on Easter weekend (2nd to 5th April) at the office 42 Upper Richmond Road West. On this weekend we will be stuffing thousands of envelopes for the election freepost - and we need lots of people to keep that weekend free to come in and help. Please do put it in your diary now

• Weekend campaigning: Mark Weston writes: This Saturday is another Action Day for Sheen Ward. Between 10.30 am and 4.30 pm we will be using my house at Lightleap, 38 Stonehill Road as a base to canvass the rest of the roads nearby. Although we recognize that there will also be a major canvassing effort in Canbury we would be grateful to have some extra support from other wards to help us complete our canvassing in our local area.

You will be very welcome even if you can only spare an hour or two during the day and light refreshments will be provided! To find my house aim for the bottom end of Stonehill Road where it joins Enmore Gardens and Clarelawn Avenue. Look for the red driveway and the sign for Lightleap next to the front door.

• Telephone Canvassing: For those who are not able to door knock, we have six phone lines available for telephone canvassing in the office. We provide full training and scripts.

• Clerical Work: Finally, just a quick reminder that the office is now open Monday to Friday from 10 am onwards for clerical work - at the moment we are working on blue letters but also have some envelope stuffing. Please do come along for a warm welcome. I hope to see you at some point over the weekend if not before.

Thanks . . '

Vince Cable's speech to the Lib Dem Spring Conference New!

Sat 13th Mar 2010

• [Mar 13]: I HAVE a very simple message. We, the Liberal Democrats, were right about the financial crisis. We warned of the dangers and we led the debate when the crisis came. And now we have a clear vision for the future of the British economy. The Queen is said to have asked why no one warned about the crisis in the banking system. Actually, we did.

Featherstone on International Women's Day New!

Sat 13th Mar 2010

• [Mar 11] Lynne Featherstone (Hornsey & Wood Green, Liberal Democrat): ' . . MY right hon. Friend the leader of the Liberal Democrats has said that my party expects to increase the number of women in this House after the election. Should that fail to be the case, he has said that he will consider an appropriate mechanism, because there does come a point when one will be needed.

Lamb and Kramer on Health Care in London New!

Sat 13th Mar 2010

• [Mar 09] . . Susan Kramer : I PARTICULARLY appreciate this opportunity to speak in the debate in defence of my local hospital, Kingston hospital. I am joined in my campaign by my hon. Friend Mr. Davey. We first learned of the risk to the hospital's A&E and maternity departments towards the end of last year. We told NHS officials that we thought the plans were outrageous. Kingston's maternity department deals with nearly 6,000 births a year, and the A and E unit treats more than 100,000 patients a year. It is therefore busier than almost any other hospital that has been mentioned. We agreed that we would hold back from going public with our campaign until the documents had been published. However, we were told in January that the documents would be withheld until after the general election, so we went public with our campaign anyway.

Harris quizzes Harman on the Back-Bench Business Committee New!

Sat 13th Mar 2010

• . . Evan Harris (Oxford West & Abingdon, Liberal Democrat): ON a point of order, Mr. Speaker. I am glad that the Leader of the House is in her place-or nearly in her place-for this point of order. Last Thursday, historically, the House agreed without a Division to set up a Back-Bench Business Committee in time for the start of the next Parliament. Will you confirm, Mr. Speaker, that the only way that can be done is if a Standing Order is passed in this Parliament to do that job?

Sat 13th Mar 2010

I am delighted that his Committee was able to reach a unanimous view on this sensitive issue, and I hope that the Minister and his officials were listening to the points that he raised.

Kramer quizzes Mole on Waterloo station New!

Sat 13th Mar 2010

• [Mar 04] Susan Kramer : TO ask the Minister of State, Department for Transport if he will instruct BRB (Residuary) Ltd. to ensure that no commercial development takes place under the platforms of Waterloo International Terminal which would significantly delay bringing into use the former Eurostar platforms at Waterloo for domestic passengers.

Davey on Global Security (Non-Proliferation) New!

Sat 13th Mar 2010

• [Mar 04] Edward Davey (Kingston & Surbiton, Liberal Democrat): I JOIN in the tributes to the late Michael Foot. He was a fantastic campaigner for peace and nuclear disarmament and it is right that hon. Members should mention him at the start of their remarks.

Why vote Liberal Democrat? Book review New!

Sat 13th Mar 2010

• Mark Pack writes: IF you go to Amazon searching for "Why vote Liberal Democrat?", edited by Danny Alexander and just published  by Biteback, you may be surprised to find yourself being presented instead with a book of the same title from 1997, written by William Wallace. The new book is misfiled by Amazon under the title "Why vote Lib Dem?" but actually the 1997 volume provides an interesting contrast with the 2010 version.

Tonge and Watson on the Car Parking Charges for Richmond Park New!

Fri 12th Mar 2010

• [10 Mar] Baroness Tonge: ' . . THE main reason for the changes to the regulations for Richmond Park and Bushy Park is to raise revenue to rebuild the roads in them. These were originally sandy tracks, which have in recent years been covered in tarmac. They have never been properly metalled or constructed. This means that pollutants from the traffic drain into the park, destroying the special grasslands and thus the whole ecology of the park . .'
