Simon Hughes MP, Lib Dem London Mayoral Hopeful visits Richmond upon Thames12.00.00am GMT Mon 23rd Jun 2003
On Saturday June 21st, Simon Hughes MP, London's Lib Dem Mayoral Candidate came to visit Richmond as part of a three month consultation process to canvass opinion from Londoners before producing his manifesto for the Mayoral Elections. During his visit Jenny Tonge MP raised her concerns about the proposals by the Office of Fair Trading to deregulate the pharmaceutical sector, which would threaten local pharmacies with unfair competition from supermarkets. Jenny Tonge MP: "On Saturday I joined Simon Hughes and prospective South West GLA candidate Dee Doocey in Kew Village to collect signatures against the OFT proposals for pharmacy deregulation. I have already collected 3,000 signatures urging the Department of Trade and Industry to reject the recommendations of the OFT report, and will continue to campaign against the proposals. If you would like a copy of the petition please contact my office on 020 8332 7919". Ends For more info please contact Serena Hennessy on 020 8332 7919 or Andrew Pilkington on 020 8940 2994
