Young Mariners Lotto Win

Dr Jenny Tonge, Liberal Democrat MP for Richmond Park, visited the Thames Young Mariners Base in Ham on Tuesday September 16th to help them celebrate their grant from the New Opportunities Fund.

The NOF is a Lottery Distributor which awards grants to education, health and environment projects.

The Young Mariners, an outdoor activities centre serving young people from Richmond, Hammersmith and Fulham, will spend its windfall - of over £90,000 - on a new climbing wall and low ropes course. There will also be funds to refurbish changing rooms to support the existing activities of canoeing, kayaking and mountain biking.

Dr Tonge said: "It is essential to expand the kind of facility offered by Thames Young Mariners - particularly at a time when schools are having such difficulty fitting sport into the National Curriculum."
