Richmond Park Lib Dems Campaign To Save Post Office

12.00.00am GMT Mon 6th Oct 2003

Liberal Democrats activists, headed by Susan Kramer were out in force on Saturday October 3rd in Friars Stile Road, Richmond collecting signatures on a petition to save the local post office branch from closure.

The Post Office is consulting on a plan to close the Friars Stile Road branch in December, saying the branches in George Street and Sheen Road are close enough to serve the local community.

Local campaigner Susan Kramer, pictured here talking to a concerned resident, said: "I don't think I've ever seen a petition like it - people were simply queueing up to sign. It's a measure of how strongly people feel about this branch."

"We shall go on collecting signatures as long as the consultation period lasts - I hope some of the local shops will help. There is a real sense of community up here on Richmond Hill and they all realise how essential this post office branch is."

Concerned residents should write to: Drew McBride, Post Office Ltd., PO Box 2060 Watford WD18 8ZW
