New specialist care home opens its doors

6.42.12pm GMT Tue 6th Nov 2007

New state-of-the-art accommodation for people with learning disabilities is set to open its doors in Twickenham next week.

Owned and built by Richmond Council, it is home to eight residents and will replace the former care home on the Cambridge Park site. Facilities include specially adapted bathrooms with hoists, en-suite bedrooms and a lift.

Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing, Cllr Denise Carr, said: "This superb new building, designed and built to a very high standard, will further enhance services for people with learning disabilities in the borough. Providing the new accommodation on the same site as the old means that residents are able to stay in the community in which they have lived for many years and keep their links with the neighbourhood. The residents have been fully involved in choosing the décor and furnishings for their new home and are really looking forward to moving in. They have been able to watch the building in progress, which has been very helpful in preparing them for the change. Once settled in I am sure they'll want to have a house-warming for their families and friends."
