Youth celebration for International Women's Day

12.10.46pm GMT Thu 6th Mar 2008

• YOUNG women are invited to bring their friends and family to a free event at Heatham House in Twickenham on Saturday 8 March, to mark International Women's Day.

Richmond Council's Integrated Youth Support will host an afternoon of activities and entertainment to inspire and celebrate the contribution of women to society. The Youth Centre will feature displays on inspirational women while young people will have the opportunity to take part in our wide range of workshops including lyric writing, street dance and Henna. Female performers will provide music throughout the afternoon and professionals from the police, army and the Samaritans will be on hand to talk to visitors. A wide range of information and guidance will be available, with access to careers advisors, sexual health services and workshops on women's safety and working in creative industries.

Cllr John Coombs, Cabinet Member for Youth, Culture and Leisure on Richmond Council, said: "I am delighted to invite young people in the borough to join us celebrating International Women's Day. It is a truly global event that recognises women's rights and contributions, and promotes continuing efforts to achieve equality throughout society. The event is sure to be an enjoyable and informative day and I urge young women to come along and bring their friends and families too."
