• MCDONALDS management promises measures to tackle litter problems following meeting with Councillor Munira Wilson

A revised litter-picking schedule to target peak times, extra litter bins, as well as litter-picking from private front gardens (subject to written permission from residents), were the measures agreed between the management from McDonalds Drive-Thru at Apex Corner and councillors at a recent meeting. The meeting between McDonalds managers and West Twickenham councillor Munira Wilson, along with Lead Member for the Environment Cllr Martin Elengorn and officers, took place following numerous complaints about litter from the fast food restaurant. Local residents have been complaining that their front gardens are often used as litter bins by McDonalds customers, and the pavements outside their homes are blighted by half-drunk milkshakes and burger wrappers.

Cllr Wilson said, "After McDonalds had both its applications to open 24 hours a day turned down, I pledged to tackle the litter issues plaguing the area. I'm delighted that Cllr Elengorn and I had such a fruitful meeting with the McDonalds management. I'm particularly pleased that McDonalds have said they are willing to litter-pick from front gardens, if they're given permission by residents. I'll be writing to local residents soon to ask if they wish their gardens to be included and also to consult on whether they would like additional litter bins close to particular litter hotspots such as bus stops. Cllr Elengorn, officers and I also successfully pressed for a revised litter-picking schedule - one for summer and one for winter. I will be monitoring the situation closely and ensuring that McDonald's stick to their promises."
