Richmond Town Centre improvements forge ahead

5.01.00pm GMT Sat 28th Jun 2008

• WORK on the TfL funded, £4m revamp began last September. After a six month gap to allow public utilities to complete essential mains replacement works, the Council is about to restart work, in George Street followed closely by Hill Street.

The work will include provision of new York Stone paved footways, a realigned and resurfaced carriageway with additional pedestrian crossing points, traffic calming features, and new shop servicing bays. Lighting throughout the town centre is also being upgraded.

Richmond Council's Cabinet Member for Traffic, Transport and Parking, Cllr David Trigg, said: "This is an excellent scheme which, when completed, will transform the town centre, and make it an even more attractive destination for residents and visitors to the area. As well as enhancing the overall look of the area, it will also boost safety for all road users. The improvements are expected to be completed by autumn 2009, and throughout everything will be done to keep disruption to a minimum."
