• SIX teams designed, built and raced model solar cars in the first ever borough Primary School Solar Car Challenge held on Friday 11 July.

In the fastest car category, Hampton Hill Junior School was victorious but closely followed by the Queen's School and St Mary's School. Stanley Junior School took out the most creative car title. The day was coordinated by Richmond Council, Richmond Environment Network and Waitrose, and not only helped pupils learns more about the environment but also demonstrated the power of the sun to produce an alternative source of energy.

Cllr Martin Elengorn, Cabinet Member for Environment on Richmond Council, said: "Congratulations to the winning team and to all pupils selected to represent their schools. I hope they found this an exciting and fun way to learn about being environmentally-friendly. Sustainability is at the heart of everything Richmond Council does and we are doing all we can to raise awareness of it in borough schools."
