• RICHMOND Council has hailed the performance of 11-year-old school pupils in their Key Stage 2 tests, as provisional results show our primary schools are still the best in the country.

Of the borough's Year 6 pupil's, English results improved by 1%, with 89% of pupils achieving Level 4 (The expected Level at the end of Key Stage 2). In mathematics, results improved by 4% (to 88%) and in science, 94% of pupils also achieved Level 4. At Level 5 (The higher level), there as been further improvement with 46% gaining the qualification in English, 49% in Mathematics and 63% in Science. These are the highest results in the country. Overall, this places primary schools in the borough second nationally for both Level 4+ and Level 5+ attainment.

Cllr Malcolm Eady, Cabinet Member for Children's Services and Education, said: "Although these results are provisional, as we are still awaiting some results, these indications are a cause for celebration. Richmond upon Thames has the best primary schools in the country and these results are a tribute to the hard work of teachers and pupils in our schools. I would like to send them my warmest congratulations."
