Herts Lib Dems pick the Millers' daughter9.09.13pm GMT Sat 20th Sep 2008
• THE Liberal Democrats of Hertfordshire South-west [the only Conservative seat in Hertfordshire where the Conservative percentage majority actually fell in 2005] have picked a new prospective parliamentary candidate [PPC]. They knew they needed a doughty campaigner to chip away at the Tories' 17 % majority, so they picked one of the party's rising stars: Susan Gaszczak.
Susan who? She's better known to Richmond Lib Dems as Susan Miller, the daughter of veteran councillor Brian [Ham, Petersham & Richmond Riverside] and Linda Miller. She worked for the Local Party for many years, fund-raising and organising the LDYS, and on the successful campaigns to elect Jenny Tonge in 1997 and re-elect her in 2005. More recently she won her own [Bedfordshire] County Council seat at the first attempt - overturning a large Tory majority. Within a year of being elected Susan became Deputy Leader of her council group, leading her group on issues including youth service provisions, rural buses, mineral extraction and education. Susan believes in representing communities at all levels and serves on the County Council, the East of England Regional Assembly Executive and the EERA Social Inclusion Panel. Twickenham & Richmond Park Lib Dems wish her every success! And if you don't win first time remember: it took Vince Cable 27 years and four attempts to get himself elected!
