• RICHMOND Council's efforts to cut its carbon footprint were recognised by the Carbon Trust at an awards ceremony held last week.

Solar panels on the roof of the Civic Centre in Twickenham, using energy-saving light bulbs with daylight and occupancy sensors and improved insulation in Council buildings were just some of the projects hailed at the ceremony. Leader of the Council, Cllr Serge Lourie, said: "I'm delighted our efforts have been recognised by the Carbon Trust. We've been extremely vocal about encouraging residents to cut their carbon emissions and think about their impact on climate change, but as Council it is vital we lead by example. So far we've had tremendous success, but we won't rest on our laurels. We will continue to work to reduce our impact on the environment and in particular we will be working with local schools to improve their energy efficiency."
